Fandom elitism
Jun. 22nd, 2013 02:05 pmHello there, neglected journal. It's posting time!
(I found this draft I'd saved somewhere. I was going to post it on my new Tumblr but then people from the fandom I'm complaining about followed me so I couldn't. Besides, it would have made me look suspicious because of a certain related incident I don't feel like getting into too much. It certainly had something to do with me getting a new Tumblr.)

Elitism really gets on my nerves.
I wish all people could just understand that everyone is entitled to enjoy something in their own way, to be allowed to participate in a fandom however they so choose. They have every right to post what they want on the fandom’s tag.
It’s not that people are posting unrelated things. No, they are in fact related. But, because they do not conform to certain people’s standards, those elitist people will get their knickers in a twist, complain on their blogs and converse with each other about how awful their tag has become, even if the posts in it are still on topic.
Tell me, what gives them the right to complain about other members of the fandom talking about and posting whatever they like? Why do they think it’s okay to even go so far as to reblog the posts and make snide comments like ‘who cares’? That kind of behaviour is extremely rude and uncalled for, and frankly, I am unable to tolerate that kind of thing anymore.
This has only been a real problem with one fandom for me so far, but I imagine it happens in other fandoms as well.
I wish people like them would just accept that everyone has a right to be posting on the tag and quit it with their rude, ‘holier-than-thou’ attitudes. They are not Tumblr staff. They do not have any control over the site, the fandom or anything like that. If they don’t like what is being posted on the tag, they should ignore it or block the offending blogs, not post complaint after complaint where the posters can see them, especially when they even reblog so that the poster ends up seeing it on the blog notification page. Nobody wants those complaints being thrown directly in their face.
It’s rather sad that even a small fandom should have such rude and snobby individuals.

It was a harmless little friendly reminders blog. That was all it was. They could just have blocked it, but no, they had to be nasty about it.
I'm never going back to that fandom. There are decent people in the fandom, but I can't abide being around those jerks. This might sound silly but it really hurt my feelings and I can't let go of that.
I'd prefer to hang out in fandoms where people don't get all riled up about what I post in their precious tag. =/
